I love going to drink tea during strange hours: 1:00am, 2:00am, 3:00am, etcetera. It’s part of a grander plan that spans my life: to be as strange as possible. I bring with me a thermos of hot water, a teapot made by me of the strangest materials on the planet, tea leaves from the legendary Alishan forest in Taiwan (from where all tea originally comes) and my teacup, which is a normal teacup that I bought at a store near my house. All these things are just as important for making strange and special tea. If you make tea at, let’s say, 1:00am with a teapot made from the strangest materials on the planet, but without Alishan leaves, you’ve made tea that is strange (and very much so) but not special. Non-strange people always think it’s easy to be strange. That it’s a question of obeying the id, fusing it with the ego, and relieving oneself of the burden of the superego which is the fabric of civilization. But my life is not easy. I am strange and my life is not easy. I bring four strange and special things with me everyday to make tea.
